An experience 100 years in the making
Sometimes the work of just one person changes history forever. Such is the story of Mary Scott, a Daytonian now well-known as a trailblazer in the healthcare field.
| The work of “Mother” Mary Scott began in 1914 when she took on woman in need into her home. Shortly after, her dedication fast outgrew her available space and in 1915, her mission took a more formal shape in the way of a shelter which she located on Germantown Pike.
Today, nearly one hundred years later, Mary Scott would be amazed to see how health care has developed and changed. |

| The Mary Scott Nursing Center is now modernized beyond what “Mother” Scott could have imagined. The facility, currently located at 3109 Campus Drive, has a total of 118 beds and offers skilled nursing, respite, long-term care and sophisticated rehabilitative health care services.
The mission of Mary Scott is now implemented under the direction of the center’s Board of Trustees. Mary Scott Nursing Center is the oldest non-profit nursing faclitiy in continuous operation in the city of Dayton and is the only African American owned facility in the Miami Valley Area. MSNC serves residents from all walks of life. |
