EVENT HONORS
DAYTON AREA WOMEN VOLUNTEERS
(Dayton,
OH) Clifton Davis, lead actor in the NBC television
series, "Amen," has been announced as the featured
speaker at Mary Scott Nursing Center's Thirteenth Annual
Legacy Awards Banquet. Mary Scott Nursing Center, at 3109
Campus Drive, is Dayton's oldest nursing home. The event will
be held Thursday, April 25, at 6:00 pm, at the Mandalay
Banquet Center, 2700 East River Road in Dayton. Open to
the public, the evening honors and recognizes Miami Valley
women, age 55 years and older, who exemplify the spirit of
Christian service to persons who are elderly, homeless or
disabled.
In making the announcement, Sophia Gordon, Mary Scott's
Executive Director, said, "We are delighted to have
Clifton Davis as our keynote speaker. He is an inspiring and
motivational speaker who has served the community as a board
member of The Children's Defense Fund and has received a
number of awards for his ardent support and service to the
United Negro College Fund, the N.A.A.C.P., and the Cerebral
Palsy Foundation. Our founder, "Mother" Mary Scott
had a strong faith joined with caring and compassion. During
this evening we honor Dayton area women leaders who exemplify
this same tradition as our founder Mary Scott."
Clifton Davis is a multi-dimensional "Renaissance
Man." As an actor, producer, composer, author, activist,
humanitarian, and minister, he has entertained, enriched and
affected the lives of millions of persons.
His television credits extend over a period of more than 25
years. In addition to his role as the Reverend Rueben Gregory
on the hit series, "Amen," he stared in CBS-TV's
"The Melba Moore & Clifton Davis Show," and

guest starred in made-for-TV movies such as "Dream
Date," "Little Ladies of the Night,"
"Murder at the Superdome," "Scott Joplin,"
"Don't Look Back," and "The Night the City
Screamed."
Other television credits include "The Love Boat,"
"Police Story," and almost every major talk show
including "The Tonight Show," "Oprah," and
"The Arsenio Hall Show."
Davis began his illustrious career in the theatre. On Broadway
he appeared in such hits as "Hello Dolly!" starring
Pearl Bailey, and "Jimmy Shined" starring Dustin
Hoffman. As one of the leads in the Tony Award-winning hit
musical, "Two Gentlemen of Verona," Davis received a
Tony nomination for Best Actor in a Musical.
Davis is an accomplished composer and, in 1971, received a
Grammy nomination for his number one song "Never Can Say
Goodbye." As a singer and a recording artist himself,
Davis has enjoyed success with his own Gospel album, "Say
Amen."
Davis served as Honorary Membership Chairperson of the
National PTA and is a board member of a local Ronald McDonald
House. Davis has hosted numerous telethons and is a celebrated
MC and public speaker on drug abuse and civic issues.
